Coaching
If you're looking for a deep, personalized opportunity to heal your eating issues with a caring, knowledgeable guide, individual coaching could be a great fit.
Hi, I'm Katie
I struggled for years with my eating. I was a smart, reasonably "together" person, and I couldn't figure out why such a simple thing seemed so incredibly difficult. Why couldn't I just eat less? I always seemed to be "messing up" around food, no matter what I did.
Eventually, I realized that the reasons that I always seemed to be eating more than I truly wanted were much, much deeper than I ever realized. They had to do with things like my relationships, my environment, my ambition, my fears, and even my ability to feel my own body (or "somatic awareness," if you want to be fancy).
All those diets which promised that I could "conquer my sugar cravings" by eating certain combinations or quantities of foods were lying to me, because none of them ever addressed these much deeper, more important issues.
Exploring the deeper issues that were driving my eating was one of the best things I've ever done — no exaggeration. It allowed me to genuinely enjoy food, and ultimately also impacted my relationships, my career, and almost every other element of my life in a positive way. For all of these reasons, I'm deeply committed to this work.
I'm a certified coach (ACC) with the International Coach Federation (ICF), the only independent licensing organization for coaches. I completed my coach training with New Ventures West. I also have a general life coaching practice that is not focused on eating and weight issues.
My approach
My goal is for you to develop a happy and less stressful relationship with food.
I believe in an integral approach to eating. That means that all elements of your life influence your eating — including the way you relate to your friends, your family, your job, your home, your body, your emotions — and we'll talk about all of them.
A number of skills are needed in order to eat in a truly integral way. Many people are overdeveloped in some areas, and underdeveloped in others. For example, you might be good at knowing facts about superfoods, but less good at feeling your body sensations when you are in the middle of an over-eating episode. We'll talk about developing the skills that are necessary for you to eat in a way that makes sense for you.
My coaching also requires active participation from you. It's not enough to simply show up and chat with me each week — that's not how lasting and meaningful change happens. You'll be expected to spend 10-30 minutes a day reading, journaling, or trying new practices.
Individual Coaching
In an individual coaching relationship, we meet together for a minimum of three months and work on the deepest issues that are affecting your eating and your life.
I generally meet with clients for 45-minute sessions over Skype, so we can work together no matter where you live (I've worked with folks on five continents so far!).
If you're interested in working with me, enter your information below. I'll reach out and we can find a time to chat about whether it would be a good fit.
